Samsung Unveils the Galaxy Ring Wearable that Tracks Activity & Sleep

While not nearly as ubiquitous as smartwatches, smart rings are an attractive option for those who don’t want all the bells and whistles of a smartwatch but still want to benefit from the health monitoring they provide. Rings can be worn in more extreme situations and are also much more discreet than a bright screen on your wrist. And for people who don’t love wearing a wristwatch while they sleep, a ring has an edge in terms of comfort. With the announcement of its Galaxy Ring, Samsung becomes the first major tech brand to enter the smart ring space, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

When it was teased back in January at the brand’s Galaxy Unpacked event, we didn’t know much, but now at Mobile World Congress, Samsung gave us slightly more info. Working in tandem with your Galaxy phone or smartwatch, the Galaxy Ring will be capable of tracking your sleep and providing feedback on your sleep health. Recently cleared by the FDA, the Ring is capable of detecting signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea. Eventually, Samsung plans to partner with other brands to enhance these capabilities. One example the brand gives is incorporating the Ring with a smart mattress that adjusts its temperature to optimize your sleep quality.

New features for the Galaxy Ring and other Samsung devices, such as My Vitality Score and Booster Card, will give even more in-depth insights on your health. While full details haven’t yet been announced, we do know that the Ring will take into account heart rate, movement, and respiratory indicators to give you readouts and insight when you’re either active or resting. Samsung has also revealed that it plans to use AI tools to maximize information and personalize insights. For women, there’s a fertility tracker that can be used with the Ring as well.

The Galaxy Ring doesn’t have a price or exact release date as of yet, but we do know that it’s supposed to arrive later this year. Head over to Samsung’s website to learn more.
