Samsung just made the Galaxy S24 less compelling

The hardware on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series is boring. It’s powerful, don’t get us wrong, but it’s not particularly exciting. What’s exciting is the introduction of Galaxy AI, Samsung take on AI that is introducing new and exciting ways of interacting with our smartphones.

Samsung did previously confirm that they will be bringing Galaxy AI to other devices apart from the Galaxy S24, and now we know which devices they are. According to Samsung’s announcement, the devices eligible to receive Galaxy AI include the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series.

According to Samsung mobile chief TM Roh, “Our goal with Galaxy AI is not only to pioneer a new era of mobile AI but also to empower users by making AI more accessible. This is only the beginning of Galaxy AI, as we plan to bring the experience to over 100 million Galaxy users within 2024 and continue to innovate ways to harness the unlimited possibilities of mobile AI.”

Samsung says that the update will roll out at the end of March with One UI 6.1. Keep your eyes peeled if you own any of the devices mentioned above. Samsung also makes a note at the bottom of its website where they state that not all AI features from the Galaxy S24 will come to older devices. They do not mention which will not make the cut, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Some AI features that users can expect include Chat Assist and Live Translate. There is also the Interpreter tool along with Circle to Search. Users who make a lot of voice recordings can also expect to see Transcript Assist. Photographers can look forward to Generative Edit that will make editing photos a breeze.
