Co-founder of OpenAI, Ilya Sutskever, announces departure from company creating ChatGPT
Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI and one of the original creators of the AI technology ChatGPT, announced his departure from the company after nearly a decade. Sutskever’s decision comes after last fall’s incident where he was part of the board members who initially voted to remove CEO Sam Altman, only to reinstate him shortly after. It was Sutskever who informed Altman of his dismissal in November.
Taking to social media platform X, Sutskever shared that he is moving on to a new project that holds deep personal significance to him, although he did not disclose any further details. Altman expressed his sadness at Sutskever’s departure, praising him as one of the greatest minds of their generation and a close friend.
Jakub Pachocki will be stepping into the role of chief scientist at OpenAI, succeeding Sutskever. Altman lauded Pachocki as another exceptional intellect of their generation and expressed confidence in his ability to lead OpenAI towards their mission of ensuring that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits everyone. AGI aims to create machines that possess human-like intelligence or can perform tasks as proficiently as humans.
Recently, OpenAI unveiled an updated version of its AI model capable of real-time reasoning across text, audio, and video. This advancement demonstrates the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI technology.
